Kottayam, June 27 (NationPress) Addressing rumors regarding the Kerala Congress (Mani), the third largest partner in the ruling CPI(M)-led Left Democratic Front (LDF), the party chairman and Rajya Sabha member Jose K. Mani declared that "they are a satisfied group".
On Friday, prior to a party meeting, Mani stated, “The speculation about our shift is unfounded, and we have not engaged in any talks about it with anyone. We are pleased within the Left Democratic Front,” explained Jose.
Notably, Opposition Leader V.D. Satheesan has recently claimed that the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) is poised for growth, suggesting that "extraordinary political developments are imminent".
Jose is the son of the iconic K.M. Mani, who established the Kerala Congress party in the 1960s and passed away in 2019.
His record as the longest-serving legislator was surpassed by Congress stalwart Oommen Chandy just before he died in 2023.
Throughout the years, Mani's party has experienced several factional splits, and his consistent remark during such divisions is that the "Kerala Congress splits as it grows and grows as it splits".
Historically, the party has shifted between the two main opposing political alliances—the Congress-led UDF and the CPI(M)-led Left Front, which is where Jose currently belongs.
Currently, various factions of the former Kerala Congress exist, including Kerala Congress and Kerala Congress (Jacob), both within the UDF, while in the ruling Left, in addition to Kerala Congress (M), there are the Kerala Congress (B) and the Democratic Kerala Congress.
One faction, led by former seven-time legislator P.C. George, merged his party with the BJP in January 2024.
Remarkably, during the 2020 local body elections, the party under Jose transitioned towards the Left from the UDF, and just before the 2021 Assembly elections, his party was recognized as a permanent member of the Left.
“Our meeting aims to devise a strategy for the upcoming local body elections,” added Jose.
