New Delhi/Thiruvananthapuram, Sep 9 (NationPress) The Minister of Fisheries, Culture and Youth Affairs of Kerala, Saji Cherian, had a meeting with the Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, in New Delhi on Tuesday. The purpose of the meeting was to formally invite him to the forthcoming Kerala–European Union (EU) Blue Economy Conclave 2025, titled "Blue Tides".
This meeting was conducted at the Union Minister's residence and was also attended by Kerala's Special Representative in Delhi, K.V. Thomas, and Additional Resident Commissioner Aswathi Srinivas.
The conclave is set to take place from September 18 to 19 at The Leela Raviz in Kovalam, Thiruvananthapuram. It will be organized by the Kerala Fisheries Department in partnership with both the Indian government and the European Union.
According to Cherian, "The high-profile international gathering will convene EU Ambassadors, senior policymakers, diplomats, industry leaders, academic experts, and specialists in the realm of Blue Economy. The focus will be on exploring opportunities and challenges in sectors such as marine fisheries, aquaculture, coastal infrastructure, circular economy, energy transition, smart ports, tourism, education, and skill development."
The conclave will not only include thematic discussions but will also showcase cultural performances and networking opportunities, allowing attendees to immerse themselves in Kerala's rich heritage and hospitality.
Minister Cherian emphasized that the event aims to fortify partnerships between India, Kerala, and the EU, fostering sustainable development and positioning Kerala as a center for innovation and collaboration within the Blue Economy sector.
The EU delegation will be headed by Ambassador Herve Delphin, accompanied by ambassadors from 20 European nations, including France, Italy, Spain, Denmark, Sweden, and Austria.
Kerala's rich maritime traditions and cultural ties with the sea will be highlighted, showcasing the state as an attractive destination for European investments.
By promoting Kerala's advancements in sustainable fisheries, coastal development, and renewable energy, the conclave aims to establish the state as a global leader in the principles of the Blue Economy.
