Thiruvananthapuram, March 10 (NationPress) Kerala's Transport Minister K. B. Ganesh Kumar firmly stated on Tuesday that he has no intention of resigning amidst the escalating controversy sparked by accusations made by his wife, asserting that the media has exaggerated the situation.

He further clarified that there are no longer any complaints from his wife, suggesting that the matter has been resolved privately.

The minister previously met with Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to outline his perspective as the situation intensified.

While the government views the complaint as a private family matter, the controversy has ignited significant political backlash, raising doubts about the integrity of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government.

Opposition leader V.D. Satheesan remarked that the allegations are serious and demanded Ganesh Kumar's removal from the Cabinet.

He emphasized that the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) consistently advocates for women's safety and public ethics.

Senior Congress figure K. Muraleedharan noted that Vijayan has frequently discussed the importance of morality in politics and the necessity for protecting women.

"He must address the inconsistencies in the CPI-M's approach," he stated.

The controversy began when the minister's wife allegedly contacted helpline number 112, claiming domestic assault.

However, the police, upon arrival, reportedly did not take action, stating it seemed to be a domestic issue.

There were also suggestions that the Chief Minister’s daughter had been informed about the incident, yet no formal action was taken.

The opposition plans to highlight this issue vigorously during the election campaign, questioning the government's handling of the minister's case.

They have pointed out the contrast with the prompt action taken in the rape allegations against Congress MLA Rahul Mamkootathil, which led to a special investigation team being formed.

Subsequently, the party expelled the young MLA.

Meanwhile, SNDP Yogam General Secretary Vellappally Natesan harshly criticized Ganesh Kumar, claiming that his actions have tarnished the government's reputation and labeling the controversy as a “cancer within the Cabinet”.

He argued that the issue cannot simply be dismissed because the complaint was retracted and urged the Chief Minister to make a decision that would restore public confidence.

Reports indicate there is growing discontent within the ruling front, including segments of the Communist Party of India, regarding Ganesh Kumar's continued ministerial position. Media outlets and social platforms are abuzz with commentary referencing Chief Minister Vijayan's previous strong remarks in 2013 regarding Ganesh Kumar, when he faced similar allegations from his then-wife, which resulted in his resignation.
