Kochi, April 29 (NationPress) Just hours after being released on bail from a police station in Kochi for the use and possession of ganja, Kerala Forest officials apprehended the rap artist Vedan, widely recognized as 'Rapper Vedan', on Tuesday, according to reports.
Upon his appearance at a local court in Perumbavoor, the state Forest officials placed Vedan in custody for two days after a large tooth found in his necklace was confirmed to be a tiger's tooth.
Vedan claims that the tooth was a gift from a fan, a Sri Lankan national named Renjith Kumbidi, with whom he developed a friendship via Instagram.
Despite his insistence that he was unaware it was a tiger's tooth, Forest officials recorded his arrest shortly after his bail release on Monday night, following his admission to smoking ganja. Six grams of the substance were confiscated from his apartment during a raid conducted by the Excise officials based on a tip-off.
On Tuesday morning, the singer was presented by the Forest officials, who secured a two-day custody for both Kumbidi and Vedan.
The Forest officials requested additional time for further questioning and evidence collection.
Acting on a tip-off, Excise officials raided the flat of Vedan, whose real name is Hirandas Murali, where he resided with his associates. During the search, they discovered the six grams of ganja.
"He (Vedan) has admitted to using ganja," stated the Excise officials.
During the raid, officials also inspected the vehicles used by Vedan's music troupe.
The tiger's tooth emerged during the Excise raid, a locket Vedan often showcases during his performances.
Following a preliminary investigation, the Forest officials took him into custody immediately after he received station bail for ganja possession.
Vedan gained fame through his rap performances with his troupe, 'Voice of the Voiceless'. He began his career in 2020, adopting the name Vedan, and quickly rose to popularity with his work as a lyricist in films like 'Nayattu', 'Karam', and 'Manjummel Boys'.
Since then, he has garnered a massive fan base. However, this beloved artist now faces serious challenges as both the Excise and Forest Departments have initiated cases against him.
