Kochi, April 28 (NationPress) Following the booking of two film directors for ganja possession from their residences, the State Excise officials took action and arrested the rap artist Vedan, popularly recognized as Rapper Vedan.
On receiving a tip-off, a team of Excise officials arrived at the residence of Vedan, whose real name is Hirandas Murali, on Monday.
The flat, which was rented by Vedan and his associates, had eight others present during the raid.
A search of the premises uncovered 6 grams of ganja. According to Excise officials, “He (Vedan) has confessed to using ganja.”
During the investigation, the officials also examined two vehicles belonging to Vedan's music group.
With the discovery of only 6 grams, fans of the popular Vedan expressed relief, hopeful that he would secure bail if charged with possession.
As the investigation team conducted a thorough search of the flat, they stumbled upon approximately Rs 9.50 lakh in cash. Vedan explained that this was advance payment he received for his performances.
Just when the situation seemed to settle, forest officials intervened after the Excise team identified a large tooth found in Vedan's necklace as a locket.
“We have confirmed that this tooth is from a tiger, and after the Excise officials complete their investigation, we will take over the case. We will file a report and proceed accordingly,” stated the forest officials.
Reportedly, Vedan informed the investigators that the tooth in his locket was obtained from Thailand.
Gaining prominence through his rap performances under the group titled ‘Voice of the Voiceless’, Vedan began his rap journey in 2020. His works in films such as Nayattu, Karam, and Manjummel Boys quickly gained popularity, establishing him as a leading figure in the industry.
However, following the news of ganja recovery from his residence, the Kerala government has canceled his scheduled performance in Idukki as part of the fourth anniversary of the second Pinarayi Vijayan government.
