Thiruvananthapuram, Sep 16 (NationPress) The robotics education landscape in Kerala schools is poised for a significant enhancement as the Kerala Infrastructure and Technology for Education (KITE), the tech arm of the General Education Department, has issued tenders for 5,000 advanced robotics kits.
This initiative aims to support all high schools with active Little KITEs units, thereby expanding hands-on STEM learning opportunities for students.
Previously, KITE distributed 29,000 basic robotics kits with approximately 15 components to schools.
Building on this achievement, the new advanced kits will equip students with enhanced resources for creating innovative projects.
Starting this academic year, robotics has been officially integrated into the ICT curriculum for over four lakh Class 10 students.
The upgraded kits include an ESP32 Devkit v1 board as the microcontroller, along with a diverse array of sensors such as ultrasonic distance, soil moisture, PIR motion, and line-tracking sensors.
Each kit features a 4WD smart car chassis kit, a submersible mini water pump, and a rechargeable Li-ion battery pack, allowing students to develop projects that blend electronics, coding, and real-world applications.
Students will have the opportunity to create complex models like Rover Robots, automated plant watering systems, motion-activated security alarms, assistive walking sticks for the visually impaired, mini weather monitoring systems, and air quality checkers.
The kits also facilitate hands-on experience in circuit design, troubleshooting, and programming using block coding, Python, and C.
The pre-bid meeting for the tender wrapped up on Monday, with the final submission date through the Kerala e-tender portal set for September 25, 2025.
“The enthusiasm demonstrated by students and teachers for our robotics curriculum has been extraordinary. This new tender for advanced kits is a direct response to that success and underscores our commitment to cultivating future innovators,” stated K. Anvar Sadath, CEO of KITE.
He further mentioned that the new Little KITEs curriculum, which will integrate the advanced kits, is anticipated to launch by December 2025, with a dedicated training module in development.
