Vijayanagara, May 20 (NationPress) The Congress President and Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, referred to Operation Sindoor as a “minor act of warfare.”
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi was scheduled to visit Kashmir on the 17th. However, intelligence agencies advised against the trip, leading to its cancellation. If he was aware of this, why didn't he alert the tourists through police channels when the program was called off?” Kharge questioned during the Samarpane Sankalpa rally in Hospet, commemorating the two-year milestone of the Congress-led government in the state.
He emphasized that a warning from the Prime Minister could have saved 26 lives.
“Had you informed the public about these minor wartime events or the ongoing tensions with Pakistan, we could have avoided these tragedies,” Kharge stated regarding Operation Sindoor.
He further criticized PM Modi for not addressing the incident in Pahalgam. “This is unacceptable. We stand united as a nation; caste and religion are secondary,” he asserted.
Kharge claimed that PM Modi is being prioritized over the nation itself. “There were warnings regarding threats in Kashmir, yet he chose not to share this crucial information with the vulnerable,” he added.
He asserted that the Opposition stands with the nation alongside PM Modi. “The Prime Minister cannot claim exclusive ownership of patriotism. Leaders like Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi sacrificed their lives for our country. Mahatma Gandhi led us to independence, paying the ultimate price. This is the Congress legacy, yet you (PM Modi) seek to blame us. You pursue legal actions against us, using the ED, CBI, and Income Tax departments. Your attempts to undermine us will not succeed,” Kharge declared.
Regarding international representation on terrorism, Kharge mentioned, “Even though the delegation was chosen without notifying Congress, we acquiesced without objections. This is how we demonstrate our support for the nation.”
He remarked that the Congress, under the leadership of Ambedkar and Nehru, established the Constitution. “It is our duty to safeguard it. Words alone will not suffice; inclusivity is essential,” he stated.
Kharge also criticized a BJP minister who targeted Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, a defense spokesperson, claiming she has ties to Pakistan. “What consequences should that minister face? She is being singled out simply because of her surname. The Prime Minister should demand their resignation. They must be removed from their roles,” the Congress President insisted.
