Did Kharge Write to PM Modi Demanding a Special Parliament Session on 'Operation Sindoor' and Ceasefire?

New Delhi, May 11 (NationPress) Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Sunday dispatched a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging him to assemble a special session of Parliament to deliberate on the Pahalgam terror attack, 'Operation Sindoor', and the subsequent ceasefire agreement.

In reference to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's letter to PM Modi dated May 10, Kharge noted, "The Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha has already reached out to you again, reiterating the unanimous appeal of all Opposition parties for a dedicated Parliament session."

Kharge emphasized the importance of addressing a wide range of issues regarding the operation, including the ceasefire announcements that originated first from Washington DC and were later echoed by the governments of India and Pakistan.

In his letter to PM Modi, Rahul Gandhi remarked, "I reiterate the unanimous request of the Opposition to promptly convene a special session of Parliament."

"It is imperative for the public and their representatives to engage in discussions about the Pahalgam terror attack, Operation Sindoor, and the recent ceasefire initially declared by U.S. President Trump. This will also serve as a platform to showcase our united determination to tackle future challenges. I trust you will take this demand seriously and act swiftly," wrote Rahul Gandhi.

Addressing PM Modi, Kharge stated, "You may recall that as the Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha, I previously requested your attention through our letters dated 28 April 2025, to convene a special session of both Houses of Parliament in light of the horrific terror attack in Pahalgam."

"Given the recent developments, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha has again communicated the unanimous request from all Opposition parties for a special session to deliberate on the Pahalgam terror, Operation Sindoor, and the ceasefire announcements, which were initially made from Washington DC, and later by the governments of India and Pakistan," he said.

As the Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, I am extending my support for this request, Kharge wrote.

On May 8, the Centre convened an all-party meeting concerning 'Operation Sindoor' to update all parties about precision military strikes targeting terror sites across Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) and Pakistan.

The government announced on Saturday that India had reached an understanding regarding the ceasefire and halted military actions.

On Sunday, PM Modi presided over a high-level meeting at his residence with senior defense officials amidst a tense calm along the borders with Pakistan, where no new ceasefire violations have been reported.

Throughout the day, the IAF hinted that its 'Operation Sindoor' remains active.

They posted on X, "The IAF has successfully accomplished its assigned tasks in Operation Sindoor with precision and professionalism. Operations were conducted in a thoughtful and discreet manner, aligned with National Objectives. As the operations are still underway, a detailed briefing will follow in due course. The IAF urges everyone to avoid speculation and the spread of unverified information."
