What Major Scam Did Raj Minister Kirodi Lal Meena Expose in the PM Crop Insurance Scheme?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Jaipur, Feb 13 (NationPress) Rajasthan's Agriculture Minister Kirodi Lal Meena revealed a significant scam amounting to crores of rupees linked to the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana at the State Bank of India (SBI)'s Salasar branch, as reported by government officials.
Following multiple complaints regarding irregularities, the Minister visited the bank early in the morning, accompanied by officials from his department and the insurance sector. He directed that an FIR be filed against those implicated in the fraud.
Investigations uncovered that bank employees, in collusion with the crop insurance mafia, had fraudulently registered 71 non-existent farmers using forged documents.
These individuals were falsely represented as farmers in Gajner tehsil of Bikaner district, with fabricated records of land ownership and mustard crop cultivation.
Utilizing this false information, crop insurance policies were issued, resulting in a fraudulent claim amounting to Rs 9 crore.
Revenue records validated that no agricultural land was registered under the names of these purported farmers.
This fraud involved premiums totaling approximately Rs 51 lakh, which included Rs 15.76 lakh contributions from both the state and central governments.
Officials stated that had the Minister not acted swiftly, the Rs 9 crore counterfeit claim would have been processed.
Minister Meena also pointed out that around 15,000 landless individuals across the state were fraudulently insured, with total fake claims estimated at nearly Rs 1,150 crore.
This organized scam has allegedly persisted for years with the complicity of bank personnel, insurance agents, and intermediaries.
Minister Meena affirmed that stringent legal measures will be enacted against culpable bank officials, insurance company staff, and intermediaries.
"FIRs will be filed, independent agencies will probe the case, and the implicated insurance company may face blacklisting," he stated.
He underscored that safeguarding farmers' interests ranks as the state government's highest priority and cautioned that no individual involved in defrauding farmers will escape accountability.
