Jaipur, Sep 29 (NationPress) In a dramatic late-night operation, Rajasthan's Agriculture Minister Dr Kirodi Lal Meena conducted raids on two fertilizer manufacturing facilities in the Kolayat region of Bikaner, confiscating 64,000 bags of fraudulent fertilizer and issuing orders to seal both establishments.
This action is viewed as a significant stride in the fight against fertilizer adulteration, which is harming agricultural land and deceiving farmers.
Officials revealed that the seized products were not only mixed with soil but also distributed across various districts in Rajasthan and even to Nepal.
“Such practices are rendering arable land infertile and constitute a conspiracy against farmers,” Minister Meena stated following the raids.
The operation commenced around 10 p.m. on Sunday, when Minister Meena arrived at the Naal Bypass and summoned Madan Lal, the Joint Director of Agriculture, along with other officials.
The team first targeted a facility in Gangapura village, located in the Gajner police station area, where they seized 24,000 bags of fake fertilizer. Subsequently, they moved to another factory situated three kilometers from Sankhla Phanta in Kolayat, recovering an additional 40,000 bags.
In total, 64,000 bags of soil-mixed fertilizer were confiscated.
Additionally, documents and company records were seized to facilitate further investigations.
This isn’t Minister Meena's first encounter with surprise inspections; previously in July, he uncovered adulterated fertilizer in warehouses in Bichwal, Bikaner.
Just a day prior to the Bikaner operation, he executed a crackdown in Sriganganagar. On September 25, he visited a fertilizer outlet in Alwar’s Umrain area after farmers reported excessive charges.
The shopkeeper was found guilty of overcharging farmers by Rs 950 for two bags of fertilizer.
On September 28, Minister Meena inspected markets in Rawal and Ghadsana, Sriganganagar, where counterfeit seeds and fertilizers were identified, and irregularities in seed company records came to light. Their sales were promptly prohibited.
Joint Director Madan Lal confirmed that the sealing process of both Bikaner factories is in progress. “All records are being compiled and will undergo cross-verification.
The operation is expected to be finalized by Monday,” he added.
