Kolkata, July 22 (NationPress): On Tuesday, the Kolkata Police announced the initiation of a suo motu case against the owner of a guesthouse located in Anandapur, situated on the southern fringes of Kolkata. This action follows the arrest of the prime suspect and three accomplices last Saturday in connection with the murder of Chandan Mishra, a notorious gangster from Patna.
The case was registered due to the guesthouse's failure to verify the identities of its guests, allowing the accused to stay without presenting any identification documents.
Authorities are pursuing charges against the guesthouse management under Section 223(B) (disobedience to an order duly promulgated by a public servant) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), as confirmed by a police insider.
According to police sources, multiple security lapses were noted at the Anandapur guesthouse. A city police official stated, “Guests were frequently permitted to stay without proper identity checks or valid documentation.”
“Among those who checked in last Friday, several lacked proper documentation, and not all provided photocopies of their identity cards. Upon discovering this, we initiated legal action against the guesthouse authorities,” the police officer added.
The prime suspect, Tauseef, along with three others, was apprehended at the three-storey guesthouse, Green Edge Regency, in Anandapur, during a joint operation by the Bihar Police and the West Bengal Police's Special Task Force. A woman named Alpana Das was also taken into custody but was later released due to her lack of involvement in the murder.
The accused had checked into the guesthouse on Friday afternoon after failing to reach Tauseef’s friend Ehsaan at the Shukhobrishti Housing Complex in New Town or find accommodation near Park Street in Kolkata. They traveled to West Bengal after allegedly committing the murder in Patna.
