Kolkata, July 19 (NationPress) Five individuals have been apprehended from New Town in Kolkata on Saturday in relation to the assassination of a gangster at a hospital in Patna, according to police reports.
A coordinated operation by the Patna Police and the Special Task Force (STF) of the West Bengal Police led to the detention of the suspects from a residential complex in New Town, as informed by a source from the Bidhannagar City Police, which oversees the area.
Upon inquiry, Deputy Commissioner of Bidhannagar City Police, Manav Singla, informed IANS that while several individuals have been detained for questioning regarding the gangster's murder, no formal arrests had been made at that time.
According to the information gathered by investigators, the detained individuals were directly implicated in the murder of Chandan Kumar, also known as Chandan Mishra, a convicted murderer who was released on medical parole.
He was shot dead by five armed attackers inside the ICU of a private hospital in Patna on Thursday.
As per police reports, the suspects had taken refuge in a residential complex in New Town after fleeing Patna post-incident.
Mishra had been incarcerated at Beur Jail in Patna and had been granted parole for medical treatment.
Chandan had 24 pending cases across various police stations in Buxar district and was serving a sentence for one of those offenses.
Police reveal that Mishra was killed just a day before his scheduled release from the hospital.
The shooting incident in the hospital has raised significant concerns regarding the law and order situation in Bihar's capital, which has recently been under scrutiny due to a series of murders.
Among the recent victims in Bihar are businessman Gopal Khemka, BJP leader Surendra Kewat, and lawyer Jitendra Mahato.
