Kolkata, July 29 (NationPress) To enhance monitoring within guest houses and hotels throughout the city and its suburbs, the Kolkata Police have implemented stricter check-in protocols for guests seeking accommodation.
This initiative was prompted by the recent capture of four suspects linked to the murder of Patna gangster Chandan Mishra, notably including the key suspect Tauseef, who was apprehended at a guest house, Green Edge Regency, located in the Anandapur area on the southern fringes of Kolkata. This operation involved collaboration between the Bihar Police and the West Bengal Special Task Force (STF).
It was discovered that these suspects managed to check into the guest house without providing any identification documents.
The Kolkata Police have also initiated a suo motu case against the owner of the Anandapur guest house for allowing guests to stay without proper identity verification. To avert similar occurrences in the future, new guidelines have been established for both hotels and guest houses.
Now, all guest house and hotel proprietors must collect valid identification from every guest prior to check-in. No guests will be permitted to stay without presenting a valid ID.
Moreover, the Kolkata Police have mandated that hotels and guest houses install high-quality CCTV cameras, particularly at entry and exit points.
This decision to bolster surveillance arose from a recent meeting where the Kolkata Police addressed concerns regarding insufficient monitoring at hospitality venues.
Kolkata Police Commissioner Manoj Kumar Verma emphasized the necessity for heightened vigilance concerning guests in these establishments, stating, "New guidelines are being introduced. Failure to adhere to these will result in legal repercussions for the involved parties."
Nevertheless, the guidelines stipulate that the police must also exercise due caution to ensure that guests do not experience any inconvenience or harassment.
The Commissioner has also ordered an investigation into the increasing number of guest houses in the city to confirm their compliance with legal standards.
