Kolkata, Nov 18 (NationPress) A significant reorganization occurred within the Kolkata Police on Tuesday, as the city police headquarters moved to reassign 21 officers holding the rank of Inspector, just prior to the Bengal Assembly elections.

On that day, various officers-in-charge (OC) of police stations were reassigned. Although senior officials described this as a standard transfer, the movement of such a considerable number of officers takes on added importance, especially with the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of West Bengal's electoral rolls currently taking place.

With the Assembly elections looming just five months away, this reshuffle in the Kolkata Police is indeed a noteworthy development.

Among those reassigned, Bireshwar Roy, the Additional OC of Maniktala Police Station, now takes over as the OC of Taltala Police Station.

Manish Majumdar, previously the Additional OC of Sinthee Police Station, has been appointed as the OC of Ultadanga Police Station. Rajib Chatterjee, who served as the Additional OC of Tollygunge Police Station, remains in his position as the OC of Tollygunge Police Station.

Point of View

It is essential to observe that the recent reshuffle of Kolkata Police officers appears to be a routine administrative decision, albeit one that occurs during a politically sensitive period. The timing of such changes warrants scrutiny, especially with the Assembly elections on the horizon. While routine transfers are common, the scale and timing of this reshuffle could have implications for public perception and electoral processes.
