Kolkata, Sep 27 (NationPress) In a new twist, the Kolkata Police issued a notice on Saturday to the firm responsible for the light and sound show at the Santosh Mitra Square puja, which was inaugurated by Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday.
The notice originated from the Muchipara police station.
The police have requested several essential documents from the company, including the company's license, agreements with the puja organizers, GST papers, and sound limiter documentation. This action has ignited a fresh controversy surrounding the prominent Durga puja at central Kolkata's Santosh Mitra Square, overseen by BJP Councillor Sajal Ghosh of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC).
Additionally, the police have asked the puja committee for a permission letter for the light and sound show in the puja pavilion. Reports indicate that the notice references orders from the Calcutta High Court and the Pollution Control Board.
BJP leader Sajal Ghosh expressed his frustration with the administration amid the ongoing Puja festivities. He accused the Trinamool Congress government of engaging in vendetta against his puja, which showcases the achievements of the central government and was inaugurated by Amit Shah.
"Recently, the police detained one of my advertisers for three hours. Today, they sent letters to those from outside (Rajasthan) involved in the light and sound show, requesting a license. However, the police had previously granted us permission. We will determine if it is feasible to continue the Puja this way. If this situation persists, we may have to turn off the mandap's lights," stated Ghosh.
In response, Trinamool spokesperson Arup Chakraborty claimed that Ghosh is seeking cheap publicity by targeting the administration. "If they lack the necessary paperwork, including the license, who will be accountable in the event of an accident? The police and administration did not order the puja to be halted. Why is Sajal Ghosh upset that the police are requesting documents from the lighting agency?" Chakraborty questioned.
Earlier, Ghosh accused the Kolkata Police of attempting to diminish visitor turnout at the pavilion.
He posted on social media, "The plan to stop the puja is finalized. Public opinion is our only recourse."
The BJP leader alleged a conspiracy to thwart the puja at Santosh Mitra Square, claiming police and political leaders are involved. He asserted that the police had barricaded the entire Sealdah station area, doing so intentionally.
This has resulted in visitors being unable to access the puja pavilion, with vehicles unable to enter the vicinity. He accused the police of deliberately creating obstacles to discourage visitors from attending the pavilion.
This year, the puja committee has introduced 'Operation Sindoor' as its festival theme, which has received widespread acclaim. According to Ghosh, the ruling Trinamool Congress is retaliating to prevent people from attending his puja, as it highlights the central government's successes in combating cross-border terrorism and responding to Pakistan through Operation Sindoor.
The renowned Durga Puja Committee previously showcased the Ram Mandir as its theme in 2023. The Union Home Minister had inaugurated the puja that year, praising Ghosh's efforts to create a puja mandap resembling the temple in Ayodhya.
