Srinagar, April 10 (NationPress) In a significant achievement, law enforcement in Jammu and Kashmir's Kulgam district announced on Friday its ongoing success in combating drug smugglers and traffickers.
A police statement revealed that during a 'Naka' (checkpoint) at Furrah New Bypass, officers from the Mir Bazar Police Post intercepted a suspicious individual traveling from Alstop to Furrah, who attempted to escape upon noticing their presence.
Upon conducting a personal search, authorities recovered 110 grams of charas-like substance, two grams of heroin, and cash amounting to Rs 22,000.
The suspect was identified as Danish Khurshid, son of Khurshid Ahmad Nath, and a resident of Redwani village in Kulgam district.
An FIR under Section 21 of the NDPS Act has been lodged at Qazigund Police Station, and an investigation is underway.
In another operation on April 8, officers from the Mir Bazar Police Post arrested a suspicious individual at Akhran during a checkpoint. The suspect, who also tried to flee, was found in possession of 63.31 grams of charas and 2.03 grams of heroin.
This individual has been identified as Faruk Ali, son of Sulur Ali, residing in JJ Colony in North-West Delhi's Bawana. An FIR has been registered at the Qazigund Police Station under Section 8/20 and Section 21 of the NDPS Act.
In a separate case, acting on reliable information, a police team from Qazigund Police Station set up a checkpoint at the Kurigam Railway Bridge. There, they apprehended another suspect heading towards Qazigund and recovered 109 grams of charas concealed within corn husk.
The individual was identified as Abdul Qayoom Shah, son of Mohd. Subhan Shah, hailing from Shistergam village in Anantnag district. An FIR has also been registered under Section 8/20 of the NDPS Act.
Further investigation into these cases established connections to a broader drug supply network. Following a warrant, police conducted searches in Anantnag's Sirhama, identifying Mohd. Iqbal Rather and Mukhtar Ahmad Wagay, leading to the recovery of 1.212 kg of charas.
Additionally, a comprehensive operation was carried out by the Qaimoh Police Station in collaboration with the Drug Department to monitor the sale of drugs, focusing on Schedule H medicines at local medical shops. Several establishments were found in violation of regulations, prompting recommendations for license suspensions.
The Kulgam Senior Superintendent of Police, Anayat Ali Choudhary, emphasized a zero-tolerance policy towards drug trafficking, reiterating that Kulgam Police is dedicated to dismantling drug networks and urged the community to assist in eradicating this societal issue.
