Srinagar, March 2 (NationPress) Four notorious drug traffickers have been apprehended under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT-NDPS) Act in J&K's Kulgam district, as reported by police on Sunday.

A police announcement revealed that the Kulgam police successfully executed four PIT-NDPS Act warrants issued by the Divisional Commissioner (Kashmir) against the individuals, namely Fayaz Ahmad Khan from Gudder village, Naseer Ahmad Shan from Kilam village, Tariq Ahmad Rather from Yamrach village, and Ghulam Nabi Lone from Rambhama village.

“Following the execution of the warrants, the suspects have been confined in district jails located in Udhampur, Poonch, Kathua, and Rajouri districts. This operation against the accused was initiated after the Senior Superintendent of Police Kulgam submitted relevant records, dossiers, and supporting documents. These decisive actions underscore the unwavering dedication of the Kulgam police to combat drug trafficking and abuse within the district. The detention of these habitual offenders under the PIT NDPS Act sends a strong and clear message to those engaged in drug-related offenses,” the statement noted.

The J&K Police have launched aggressive operations against drug smugglers and peddlers. Authorities contend that, aside from jeopardizing the future of the youth by rendering them addicts, the funds generated from drug trafficking are also utilized to finance terrorism in J&K.

In their comprehensive campaign against drug smugglers and peddlers, the police have also begun seizing properties by compiling prima facie evidence that these properties were acquired through the proceeds of smuggling and drug trafficking.

Most properties linked to terrorists, their allies, and drug traffickers have been seized in the southern regions of Kashmir.

It is in these southern Kashmir districts that terrorists previously operated in significant numbers before the abrogation of Article 370 and before J&K was placed under direct Central administration.
