Is Kumaraswamy Right to Criticize K'taka Government Over RSS Controversy?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Bengaluru, Oct 25 (NationPress) Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel H.D. Kumaraswamy delivered a scathing critique of the Congress-led Karnataka government on Saturday, arguing that the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) controversy is being used as a distraction from the government's own shortcomings.
During a media interaction in Bengaluru, he asserted that the RSS cannot be banned and questioned the government's continuous focus on the organization. "What have they accomplished? Why spend time discussing the RSS?" he challenged.
Kumaraswamy referenced previous controversies, pointing out that the government has stalled action on the Dharmasthala SIT case. "Currently, Mahesh Shetty (an activist opposing temple authorities) has found relief in one case. Under this administration, nothing reaches a sensible conclusion. They waste time and mislead the public," he remarked.
He stressed that instead of fixating on the RSS, the government ought to concentrate on development and addressing the state’s urgent challenges. Simple criticism is ineffective, he noted.
In response to Yathindra Siddaramaiah's assertion of Satish Jarkiholi as a potential Chief Minister, Kumaraswamy remarked, "In this nation, anyone can be CM under the Constitution designed by Ambedkar. It’s up to the party to determine the CM. No one is indispensable. My opinion is irrelevant."
He further condemned the state government for ignoring farmers' issues. "I’m unsure if reports were forwarded to the central government. Banning the RSS is not the priority. The first step should be to address the people's problems," he stated.
When questioned about Deputy CM D.K. Shivakumar's challenge for him to attract industries to the state, assuring land acquisitions, Kumaraswamy reminded that during his tenure as CM, he initiated several reforms. He highlighted the "Compete with China" initiative, establishment of industrial clusters, employment schemes, and a proposed ₹25,000 crore subsidy for the industrial sector—measures that the current government has abandoned. "They lack the capacity to carry on these projects," he asserted.
Regarding Shivakumar's challenge for an open debate, Kumaraswamy retorted that Shivakumar lacks the qualifications. "Does he possess the competency for a public debate? I have never engaged in corruption like he has. Before criticizing me, comprehend my work as CM, my departments, and my initiatives. I have implemented measures such as introducing 4,500 electric buses in Bengaluru and other developmental projects across the state," he emphasized.
Kumaraswamy also questioned the assertions of past ministers regarding industrial progress in Bengaluru, insinuating that numerous projects were either mismanaged or appropriated by private interests.
Reacting to Siddaramaiah's claim that he would not seek funds from PM Narendra Modi, Kumaraswamy stated, "Why should I request funds? The people awarded 136 seats to the Congress. When floods occurred, I constructed 1,000 homes in Kodagu without waiting for central assistance. They lack such capability and initiative," he expressed.
Present at the press meet were Legislative Party Leader Suresh Babu, former Minister Venkatarao Nadagouda, Legislative Council members T.A. Sharavan, S.L. Bhojegowda, Javarayigowda, Vivekananda, JD(S) Bengaluru City unit President and former MLA H.M. Ramesh Gowda, and Choudareddy Thoopalli.
