Key Takeaways
Mumbai, Dec 7 (NationPress) Actor Kunal Kemmu is taking a nostalgic trip down memory lane as he reflects on his experience in the National Award-winning film ‘Zakhm’.
The Bollywood multi-talented star recently engaged in a conversation with IANS while promoting his new streaming series ‘Single Papa’, and he shared his experiences working on ‘Zakhm’, a film deeply influenced by the life of Mahesh Bhatt, its director.
As he revisited cherished memories, Kunal stated to IANS, “That film was pivotal in my career and helped me strengthen my belief in myself as an actor. Prior to that, I felt like just ‘a kid in a film’. I often questioned whether I was appreciated for my cuteness or if there was more to my role. In films like ‘Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke’, I wondered if audiences enjoyed my performance because I was an eight-year-old delivering lines.”
He added, “However, in ‘Zakhm’, I first realized that I was earning respect for my work beyond simply being perceived as a nice child. For me, that was incredibly significant. My fondest memories include working with Bhatt sahab, who has been a crucial influence in my acting journey. He has always been a motivating force, even giving me a second chance in my career with ‘Kalyug’.”
Kunal revealed that ‘Zakhm’ was particularly meaningful because it marked Mahesh Bhatt's last directorial venture until he returned with ‘Sadak 2’, as well as Pooja Bhatt's final film as an actress and Kunal's last project as a child actor.
“I was thrilled to participate in it. I remember Mahesh Bhatt expressing years prior that he wanted me to be part of this film, stating, ‘If you're not in it, I won't make it’. I thought he was joking at first. I recall being in the 10th grade and feeling uncertain about my ability to commit. Mukesh Bhatt even called my home, speaking to my father, emphasizing that ‘Bhatt sahab will not proceed with the film without you’. I have immense respect and gratitude for Bhatt sahab for offering me such an unforgettable film. Even today, it holds great significance in my life; I was just 15 at the time,” he concluded.
