How Does Kyle Walker Plan to Lead Young Players at Burnley?

New Delhi, July 31 (NationPress) As the Premier League 2025-26 season approaches, Kyle Walker shared insights into his recent transfer to Burnley and his ambition to foster younger talent. He emphasized his commitment to being a leader on the pitch to mentor the next generation of players.

The six-time Premier League champion joined Burnley from Manchester City on a two-year deal earlier this month.

“It’s fantastic. Being part of this project and witnessing Burnley’s accomplishments over the past few seasons has been a joy from afar. I already recognize some faces at the club, and I’m eager to start this season,” Walker shared during an interview on JioHotstar.

“At this stage of my career, I felt the need for a change—something that embodies a family club. After many years at a prestigious club and a stint abroad, I was drawn to a place with that unique atmosphere. My son trains at the Burnley training facility, and you can truly feel the vibe there and perceive the vision the owners have for the club. I wanted to contribute to that success and the journey Burnley is undertaking,” he elaborated.

Walker reunited with Burnley head coach Scott Parker, a former teammate from his days at Tottenham Hotspur.

Reflecting on Parker’s impact on his decision to join the club, Walker said, “He’s been a significant influence. The style of football he has implemented—not just here at Burnley but also at Fulham—is something I deeply respect. But more importantly, I appreciate him as an individual.

“I’ve had the pleasure of sharing the dressing room with him, both at Tottenham and for England. When someone like him reaches out and invites you to join his team, it holds a lot of weight. I’m thankful for the opportunity he and the club have provided me.”

Beginning his journey at his childhood club Sheffield United, Walker transferred to Spurs in the summer of 2009. He enjoyed loan spells with Sheffield United, Queens Park Rangers, and Aston Villa before securing a spot in the Spurs lineup, establishing himself as one of the league’s premier right-backs.

In 2017, Walker made the move to Manchester City and became an integral player during an unprecedented era of triumph, helping the club secure 15 major titles, including the remarkable Treble—Premier League, UEFA Champions League, and FA Cup—in the stunning 2023/24 season.

“With 410 Premier League appearances, I had considered it might be time for a change, but football is an unpredictable and marvelous game. I aim to add to that number and contribute positively to our dressing room and playing style.

“I strive to be a leader on the pitch, and I hope younger players can look up to me and glean from my experiences. Additionally, I’m here to support the gaffer, Scott, in every possible way,” he stated.

On the significance of pre-season and his eagerness to integrate into Burnley, the defender remarked, “Pre-season was crucial for me as a new signing. That’s why I was keen to finalize everything promptly—this is where genuine connections are formed. When you spend extended hours with your teammates, focused solely on football without outside distractions, you genuinely get to know those around you.

“I’m aware I’ll have to perform my initiation song during camp, and I’m prepared for it! However, I haven’t come here with an attitude of superiority; I’m joining as a teammate, just like everyone else. I’m now a Burnley player, and I aspire to achieve remarkable things for this club.”
