Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Jan 29 (NationPress) In a significant development for tourism and economic growth in Ladakh, Lieutenant Governor (L-G) Kavinder Gupta officially launched a project aimed at enhancing civil aviation infrastructure at the IAF station in Leh. This event was attended by senior officials from the Indian Air Force (IAF), as reported by an official on Thursday.
The newly upgraded infrastructure is expected to streamline aircraft ground operations and enable faster civil departures.
According to a Ministry of Defence official, these enhancements will improve passenger experience and reduce turnaround times. The event was also present at by Air Marshal J.S. Mann, Senior Air Staff Officer of the Western Air Command.
This inauguration represents a key step in bolstering the Civil Aviation framework in Ladakh and signifies a spirit of collaboration between civil authorities and various agencies working for the region's progress, as stated by the official.
The infrastructure upgrades were achieved in record time, despite the challenging high-altitude environment and adverse weather conditions, the statement noted.
“Enhanced air connectivity is set to significantly boost tourism in the Leh area, creating job opportunities and supporting the livelihoods of local inhabitants,” it added.
“Furthermore, the improved facilities will offer more reliable air services for both residents and visitors, while strengthening the region's capacity to promptly respond to Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) needs,” it continued.
The Defence Ministry emphasized that this development plays a vital role in the long-term socio-economic advancement of Ladakh.
Earlier, L-G Gupta highlighted that the threat of “white-collar militancy” persists and continues to challenge India’s internal security, despite significant progress in curbing extremism.
His comments followed an explosion near the Red Fort Metro station in Delhi, prompting a multi-agency response involving the Enforcement Directorate.
Discussing the overall security landscape, L-G Gupta remarked that the Central government has effectively diminished militancy and radicalization under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The L-G cautioned that antagonistic forces from abroad are attempting to destabilize the nation.
“Our neighboring countries are not keen on witnessing India's development and favorable atmosphere. They may persist in efforts to incite disturbances. However, our agencies are robust, our communities are resilient, and our law enforcement is fully capable,” he concluded.
