Srinagar, Oct 13 (NationPress) The Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, emphasized the significance of lifelong skills and community involvement during the 36th Executive Council meeting at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, held at Raj Bhawan.
The Executive Council deliberated on several critical academic and administrative matters and provided in-principle consent to various agenda points discussed.
The Lieutenant Governor instructed the University to conduct a thorough assessment of its significant initiatives and programs, ensuring that the curriculum is regularly updated to align with the National Education Policy-2020 and to elevate SMVDU's status as a leading educational institution at the national level.
He underscored the necessity of concentrating on lifelong learning, community engagement, boosting enrollment, fostering industry partnerships, and enhancing skills through short-term courses, research, innovation, incubation, patents, faculty and staff development, and the introduction of new programs in the upcoming academic year.
The Lieutenant Governor also directed the establishment of a specialized faculty for languages, aiming to offer integrated courses in Hindi, Dogri, French, and German.
He stressed the importance of encouraging students in foreign languages and technical programs to also learn Hindi and Dogri. Furthermore, he urged SMVDU to complete the digitalization of all university records.
The meeting also reviewed ongoing projects and construction activities within the University, the implementation of NEP-2020, and critical issues related to admissions, recruitment, faculty career growth, non-functional promotions for non-teaching staff, and the end-to-end digitization of the student lifecycle management process using the e-Samarth dashboard.
It was reported that the university has recently been recognized as a 'TCS Priority College' by Tata Consultancy Services for a period of three years, as part of their campus placement initiative.
Prof. (Dr.) Pragati Kumar, Vice Chancellor of SMVDU, presented various agenda items for approval and ratification during the meeting.
Attendees included prominent academic figures such as Prof. Umesh Rai, Prof. Nilofer Khan, Prof. Pankaj Chandra, Prof. A.S.K. Sinha, and Dr. Mandeep K. Bhandari, among others.
