New Delhi, Jan 28 (NationPress) Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has officially announced his upcoming visit to India in February, following which he plans to journey to Washington to engage with US President Donald Trump.
Lula shared on the platform X that he had a telephone conversation with President Trump, and they mutually agreed to meet in Washington after his visits to India and South Korea next month, with specific dates to be confirmed shortly.
Earlier this month, Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a call from President Lula, during which they reaffirmed their dedication to further enhance the India-Brazil Strategic Partnership and elevate it to new levels in the forthcoming year.
A statement from the External Affairs Ministry highlighted that both leaders expressed satisfaction regarding the considerable advancements made in various sectors of bilateral cooperation, including trade, investment, technology, defence, energy, health, agriculture, and people-to-people connections.
The two leaders also exchanged perspectives on regional and global matters of shared concern, emphasizing the significance of reformed multilateralism to tackle common challenges. Prime Minister Modi expressed his eagerness to welcome President Lula to India soon.
PM Modi visited Brazil in July of the previous year. The discussions included collaboration in trade and investment, defence and security, health and pharmaceuticals, space, renewable energy, agriculture, food processing, energy security, infrastructure development, digital public infrastructure and UPI, traditional medicine, yoga, sports, culture, and interpersonal ties.
They focused on bolstering bilateral trade, including the expansion of the India-MERCOSUR Preferential Trade Agreement. They set an ambitious goal to increase bilateral trade to $20 billion over the next five years. Reviewing the ongoing cooperation in the energy sector, both leaders agreed to explore investment opportunities, as significant potential exists in the hydrocarbon and renewable energy sectors of both nations.
Additionally, they sought collaboration in emerging fields such as critical minerals, new technologies, AI and supercomputing, as well as digital collaboration and mobility.
Furthermore, the Prime Minister expressed gratitude to Brazil for its solidarity and support extended to India following the tragic terrorist incident in Pahalgam in April 2025.
