New Delhi, Feb 12 (NationPress) Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva is set to embark on a State Visit to India from February 18-22, at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as announced by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Thursday. During this visit, President Lula is scheduled to participate in the AI Impact Summit in New Delhi on February 19-20.
In a weekly media briefing, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal disclosed that President Lula will engage in discussions with Prime Minister Modi on February 21.
"At the invitation of the Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, His Excellency Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, President of the Federative Republic of Brazil, will undertake a State Visit to India from February 18-22, 2026. President Lula will attend the second AI Summit, scheduled for February 19-20 in Delhi," Jaiswal informed the press.
According to the MEA spokesperson, the primary day of the Brazilian State Visit will be February 21, when both leaders will hold bilateral discussions. President Lula will also be welcomed by President Droupadi Murmu on that day, along with visits from several other dignitaries, including the Vice-President of India.
Accompanying President Lula will be several ministers and a business delegation during his visit to India. The MEA noted that various events, including business engagements, have been organized to further strengthen the India-Brazil partnership.
On January 23, Prime Minister Modi received a call from President Lula, during which both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to bolstering the India-Brazil Strategic Partnership in the upcoming year.
Following their conversation, India underscored that both leaders expressed satisfaction regarding the substantial progress made across various domains of bilateral cooperation, such as trade and investment, technology, defense, energy, health, agriculture, and people-to-people connections.
The leaders also deliberated on regional and global matters of shared concern, emphasizing the need for reformed multilateralism to tackle common challenges.
Last July, Prime Minister Modi visited Brazil and engaged in talks with President Lula in both restricted and delegation-level formats, covering the comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two nations.
The discussions included cooperation in trade and investment, defense, health and pharmaceuticals, space, renewable energy, agriculture and food processing, energy security, infrastructure development, digital public infrastructure and UPI, traditional medicine, yoga, sporting links, culture, and people-to-people exchanges, as stated by the MEA.
They also explored potential collaborations in emerging areas such as critical minerals, new technologies, AI and supercomputers, digital collaboration, and mobility.
