Rio de Janeiro, Feb 17 (NationPress) Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva embarked on a journey to India on Tuesday to participate in the AI Impact Summit in New Delhi. He emphasized that the visit would also focus on exploring new avenues for collaboration between the two nations.
"Upon the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, we are setting off for India. Over the next few days, I will engage in discussions at the AI Impact Summit and explore fresh opportunities for cooperation between Brazil and India. Subsequently, we will head to South Korea at the invitation of President Lee Jae Myung to fortify our bilateral relations," President Lula shared on X.
He pointed out that a high-level business delegation would accompany him to India to enhance commercial ties.
"In 2025, trade between Brazil and India surpassed US$ 15 billion," asserted the Brazilian leader.
During his February 18-22 State Visit, President Lula will participate in the 2nd AI Impact Summit and meet with PM Modi on February 21.
"The two leaders will review the full spectrum of bilateral relations. The Prime Minister is set to host a lunch in honor of President Lula. They will also discuss regional and global issues of mutual concern, including cooperation in multilateral forums, reformed multilateralism, global governance, and Global South issues," the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) previously stated.
President Droupadi Murmu is anticipated to meet the visiting leader and will host a banquet in his honor. Vice President C P Radhakrishnan and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar are also expected to meet with President Lula.
President Lula is expected to be joined by approximately 14 ministers and a substantial delegation of top CEOs from Brazilian companies. The accompanying ministers will hold discussions with their Indian counterparts, while the CEOs are anticipated to take part in a Business Forum organized during President Lula's visit, reflecting the increasing trade and commercial activities between the nations.
"This upcoming visit marks the sixth trip of President Lula to India. His inaugural visit occurred in 2004 as the Guest of Honor for Republic Day celebrations, and his most recent trip was for the G20 Summit in September 2023. Notably, both Prime Minister Modi and President Lula have been meeting frequently in the interim. It is worth mentioning that Prime Minister Modi was in Brasilia for a State Visit from July 7-8, 2025, marking the first State Visit by an Indian Prime Minister in 57 years. The leaders also met in Johannesburg during the G20 in November 2025," the MEA noted.
India and Brazil enjoy a warm, close, and multi-dimensional Strategic Partnership grounded in shared democratic values, robust people-to-people connections, and growing collaboration across essential sectors. These two large democracies have been Strategic Partners since 2006.
"Brazil stands as India’s largest trading partner in the LAC region, and our bilateral engagement has been deepening in areas such as trade and investment, defense, energy, agriculture, health and pharmaceuticals, renewables, critical minerals, rare earth materials, science and technology, and innovation, including collaboration in Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI), AI, space, and people-to-people ties. Both nations share common positions on various international matters, including UN reforms, climate change, and combating terrorism," the MEA highlighted.
The MEA emphasized that President Lula's State Visit will provide a platform for both parties to outline a progressive agenda for further strengthening their Strategic Partnership and enhancing cooperation across bilateral, regional, and global forums on shared interests.
