Patna, May 5 (NationPress) As political dynamics intensify leading up to the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections, M.A. Baby, the recently appointed National General Secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), made his way to Patna on Monday. This visit represents a crucial effort by the Left to energize the Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance).
This is Baby’s inaugural trip to Bihar in his new capacity.
Addressing journalists at Patna Airport, he underscored the necessity for a unified opposition approach.
“We will engage in discussions with our party leaders on strategies to defeat the BJP in Bihar while strengthening the Mahagathbandhan for the upcoming pivotal elections. We will promptly share the outcomes of these dialogues with the media,” he stated.
His visit aligns with a nationwide protest organized by Left parties, featuring a Bharat Bandh on May 20 aimed at advocating for workers' rights. This bandh is being framed as both a protest and a political demonstration of the Grand Alliance’s solidarity and determination.
During a Mahagathbandhan meeting on Sunday, CPI(ML) leader Dipankar Bhattacharya reaffirmed support for the bandh.
“May 20 will be a day dedicated to workers’ rights, with all members of the Mahagathbandhan joining forces. It will also showcase our unity as we approach the elections,” he remarked.
RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav echoed this sentiment: “We will hit the streets to voice our protest.”
Bihar Congress Legislature Party leader Dr. Shakeel Ahmad Khan strongly condemned both the Central and Bihar state governments, characterizing Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s policies as “anti-people.”
He urged Mahagathbandhan parties to launch extensive public campaigns to bring attention to governance shortcomings.
Mukesh Sahani, chief of the Vikasheel Insaan Party, highlighted the necessity of unity. “All parties in the Grand Alliance must prioritize togetherness, create a common manifesto, and execute a coordinated campaign to defeat the NDA,” he stated.
These developments indicate a renewed effort by the opposition to gain traction in Bihar, with the Left aiming to play a more pivotal role in shaping the alliance’s future strategy. M.A. Baby’s involvement emphasizes the CPI(M)’s commitment to fostering a united front as elections approach.
