Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Mumbai, Dec 23 (NationPress): Actress Maanvi Gagroo, known for her role as Siddhi Patel in the acclaimed series Four More Shots Please, stressed that storytellers need to demonstrate more sensitivity and awareness in their depictions, especially regarding the representation of women on screen.
In an interview with IANS, Maanvi reflected on the depiction of female characters over the years, stating, "When we examine how women have been portrayed in films, it reveals a persistent mindset throughout time."
She pointed out, "Historically, and even today, women who indulge in drinking are often depicted as ‘bad’, ‘bigdi hui (spoilt)’, or vamp-like figures. Subsequently, something pivotal occurs in their lives, transforming them into the pure, virtuous ‘sudhri hui ladki’ (good girl), who abstains from drinking, dresses in traditional attire, and adheres to societal norms."
The actress firmly asserted that filmmakers ought to be more conscientious about their character portrayals, particularly when it comes to female roles.
"Art mirrors life, and life reflects art; this dynamic works in both directions. As societal views shift, so too must these representations. This is not to imply that smoking, drinking, or partying is commendable; it's a personal choice. Yet, as creators, we must be aware, if not accountable, for what we depict and reinforce in our narratives."
Previously, during her conversation with IANS, Maanvi expressed frustration over why women often face scrutiny for their choices, whereas men are seldom questioned, even when their actions lack sense.
"There seems to be constant judgment regarding women's behavior, whether related to drinking, smoking, or partying. Men, however, are not judged for actions like urinating in public. So why the disparity?" Maanvi queried.
"My concern lies in the evident imbalance in judgment between genders. We need to level the playing field first. Before debating the fairness of judgment, we should question whether judging anyone is justifiable," she concluded.
As for Four More Shots Please season 4, it premiered on December 19 and marks the final chapter of the series. The show has garnered positive feedback from both critics and audiences.
The series features an ensemble cast, including Bani J, Kriti Kulhari, Sayani Gupta, Prateik, Smita Patil, Dino Morea, among others.
