Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Feb 19 (NationPress) “I love your country,” conveyed French President Emmanuel Macron in an exclusive interview with IANS on Thursday during the ongoing India AI Impact Summit.
The President elaborated on the significance of the strategic partnership between the two countries and expressed astonishment at the criticism directed at the India-France Rafale deal from some factions in India, affirming that it will only strengthen the nation by creating new opportunities for strategic collaboration and job creation.
During his address at the AI Impact Summit, he characterized the relationship between India and France as “unique”, brimming with potential for enhanced cooperation across various strategic interests.
He emphasized that the substantial agreement between India and France for 114 Rafale fighter jets would bolster India's defense capabilities and questioned the negativity surrounding the deal from certain groups in India.
“I don't understand why people are criticising the deal. It will make your country stronger, enhance strategic relations between the two nations and create more jobs here,” Macron remarked.
He further added, “We are committed to having the maximum number of Indian components and critical devices made and built in India.”
Macron also noted that the partnership between the two nations transcends mere strategy; it is what they refer to as a “Special Global Strategic Partnership,” which is distinctive for both countries.
He expressed that the Make In India initiative will remain central to the Rafale fighter jets deal and shared optimism for the deepening of ties by broadening the scope of cooperation, including submarines.
“It’s a new step forward, which will consolidate the ties between two nations. Rafale is the key, I hope this cooperation extends to submarines,” he stated.
He also announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be the special guest of the G7 as the BRICS Chair.
