R Madhavan Clarifies Controversy Over 'Dhurandhar 2' Scene Featuring Gurbani
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Mumbai, March 24 (NationPress) Aditya Dhar's film, 'Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge', has been enjoying considerable success at the box office; however, it has sparked controversy over a scene in which R Madhavan is seen reciting a verse from the Gurbani while holding a cigarette.
Madhavan has since addressed the issue, clarifying that there was no intention to offend anyone's sentiments. He explained that while he may have initially had a cigarette, he extinguished it well before delivering his lines.
"This situation has been misunderstood. I am confident that during filming, Aditya Dhar Ji, who is very mindful of such matters, instructed me to refrain from smoking while delivering this line. There was to be no smoke visible, nor a cigarette in hand, as this is a deeply sacred moment for us," he stated.
He emphasized their profound respect for the Sikh community, noting, "Before the release of each film, I visit the Golden Temple. This is common knowledge. Please believe me, we never aimed to hurt anyone."
Elaborating further, Madhavan said, "At the start of the scene, it’s true I might have had a cigarette in my hand, but as the scene progressed, I made sure to put it out. Long before my dialogue, there was no smoke present, and no evidence of a cigarette remained by the scene's end."
He concluded his statement by expressing regret if anyone felt hurt by the scene, intentionally or unintentionally.
In response to the controversy, a formal police complaint has been filed in Mumbai regarding the perceived disrespect towards Sikh religious sentiments by the film's creators.
