Controversy Surrounds 'Dhurandhar 2': Opposition Accuses BJP of Propaganda
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, March 20 (NationPress) The ongoing political controversy surrounding the film "Dhurandhar 2" has escalated, with various Opposition figures accusing the film of inciting animosity and targeting the Muslim community. In contrast, BJP representatives have come forward to assert that it accurately reflects "the reality".
Samajwadi Party MLA Abu Azmi from Maharashtra vehemently condemned the movie, asserting that it is designed to spread hatred and tarnish the image of Muslims.
"This film is solely made to propagate hatred. It is a false narrative. If it is a Pakistani film, why not showcase it in Pakistan? Why impose it on the people of India?" Azmi expressed in an interview with IANS.
He also objected to the film's depiction of the deceased gangster Atiq Ahmed as having ties to Pakistan's intelligence agency, ISI.
"There can be no association between my party’s MP and ISI; that is out of the question. Every faith and community has both virtuous and flawed individuals, but by portraying such narratives, the film solely seeks to instigate hatred against Muslims," he stated.
Congress leader Hussain Dalwai has raised concerns regarding the film's financing, suggesting that it may be backed by the RSS and calling for an investigation.
“It may receive funding from the RSS. This needs to be looked into,” Dalwai remarked.
Samajwadi Party MP Awadhesh Prasad echoed similar sentiments, suggesting that the ruling BJP is attempting to distract the public.
"The BJP lacks genuine initiatives. They aim to divert attention with such unfounded claims. What the nation truly needs is employment for the jobless," he added.
Congress MP Imran Masood labeled the film as "nonsense".
He also criticized the film for glorifying the controversial 2016 demonetization.
"There are 25 crore Muslims in this country; they cannot be excluded. Spreading hatred will only obstruct national progress," he warned.
On the other hand, BJP leaders stood by the film.
Chhattisgarh Deputy Chief Minister Arun Sao accused the Congress of opposing issues based solely on political motivations.
"It is regrettable that the Congress Party disregards public sentiment and national loyalty. They resist everything that conflicts with their political agenda," Sao stated.
Former Jammu and Kashmir DGP S. P. Vaid also defended the film, asserting that it presents the truth.
"There is no controversy because the depictions in ‘Dhurandhar 2’ and its predecessor are grounded in reality," he affirmed during an interview with IANS.
