Key Takeaways
New Delhi, March 19 (NationPress) In the wake of the controversy surrounding the release of Aditya Dhar's highly anticipated film, 'Dhurandhar: The Revenge', numerous Congress leaders have voiced their strong objections to its narrative, asserting that it was crafted with a 'specific agenda'.
The film premiered in theaters on Thursday, following paid previews the previous night.
Congress MP Tariq Anwar stated, 'It is evident that the film has been produced with a particular agenda. The level of violence depicted is, in my opinion, unsuitable for younger audiences.'
He further remarked that the film contains allegations directed at a specific community, which he deemed inappropriate.
'Such portrayals only serve to heighten animosity and negativity within society. The Union government must take notice,' Anwar informed IANS.
Congress leader Rajesh Rathod echoed these sentiments, claiming it is part of the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) strategy to maintain power through the incitement of hatred.
Similarly, Congress leader Asit Nath Tiwari expressed a related viewpoint, asserting that 'Any film, literature, or speech that fosters hatred against a particular community will ultimately weaken the nation. Anything that seeks to divide society will undermine the country.'
He criticized the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and the BJP for their alleged opposition to national unity.
In addition, several Muslim religious leaders have raised alarms over the film's content and its portrayal of different communities.
On Thursday, Maulana Shahabuddin Razvi Barelvi, Chief of the All India Muslim Jamaat, along with Maulana Chaudhary Ifraheem Husain, Chief Mufti of Uttar Pradesh, accused the filmmakers of exacerbating divisions between Hindus and Muslims for financial gain.
Despite the ongoing backlash, 'Dhurandhar: The Revenge', featuring Ranveer Singh, has made a robust debut at the box office.
The film held preview screenings on March 18 before its official release on March 19, reportedly grossing Rs 75 crore worldwide on its opening day, according to trade tracker Sacnilk.
However, the cancellation and postponement of several preview shows across India may necessitate refunds, potentially impacting final revenue figures.
