New Delhi, July 7 (NationPress) The Indian Youth Congress (IYC) has initiated a nationwide legal response against what it describes as a "coordinated and malicious" digital campaign intended to "defame" the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, and to "ridicule the dignity of women".
In a strongly worded announcement, the IYC accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of misrepresenting a social welfare program—specifically, the distribution of sanitary pads to women in Bihar—as a political assault.
"By distorting a commendable initiative aimed at providing sanitary pads to women in Bihar, the BJP has reached a new low. This propaganda is steeped in misogyny and political desperation. Let it be clear: there will be repercussions—legal, severe, and permanent," they stated.
IYC National In-Charge Krishna Allavaru, President Uday Bhanu Chib, and Legal Cell Chairman Rupesh Singh Bhadoria confirmed that legal measures have already been enacted in several states against those disseminating the damaging content.
The IYC reported that on July 5, a "doctored image and obscene video" targeting Rahul Gandhi was circulated by comedian Ratan Ranjan and further propagated by social media accounts, including Mr. Sinha, Rishi Bagree, and Arun Kosli.
The youth wing of Congress has also identified Sanjay Nirupam, a leader from Shiv Sena, and advocate Sunil Sharma as "habitual offenders" participating in this alleged smear campaign.
"The nature of the content was profoundly objectionable, exploiting a women-centric issue to propagate political misogyny and calculated defamation," the IYC remarked.
An FIR has been registered in Karnataka at the High Grounds Police Station in Bengaluru under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), alongside Section 67 of the IT Act, 2000.
In Delhi, a complaint has been filed at the Mandir Marg Police Station and via the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal by the Delhi Pradesh Youth Congress Legal Cell.
In Telangana, the State Legal Cell, headed by Advocate Jakkidi Siva Charan Reddy and Coordinator Advocate Gudur Nikhil Reddy, has also lodged an FIR.
Bihar Congress in-charge Allavaru condemned the video, accusing the BJP of distracting from its political shortcomings.
"The BJP has surpassed all bounds of decency. They are disrespecting women by manipulating images to divert attention from their likely loss in Bihar. This issue transcends our leader—it concerns the dignity of every Indian woman," he asserted.
"Such actions are intolerable and legally punishable. This goes beyond defamation; it is a blatant insult to the dignity of Indian women. The BJP's IT Cell is disseminating filth to mock a public welfare initiative. We have initiated legal proceedings. There will be no doubt—we will pursue this to its conclusion," the statement continued.
Uday Bhanu Chib remarked that the BJP is notorious for fabricating false narratives but has now reached a "new low" by transforming a "sacred act of public service into vulgar propaganda".
He labeled the act as "politically and morally reprehensible" and assured that the IYC would not let such conduct go unpunished.
Citing the videos as a "well-planned defamation campaign", Rupesh Singh Bhadoria stated that it represents "not just digital hate; it is a criminal conspiracy aimed at degrading women, dehumanizing public discourse, and politically defaming the Leader of Opposition".
"It is disgraceful that the IT Cell campaign mocks menstruation to humiliate Rahul Gandhi. This is not merely defamation—it is a crime against every woman. FIRs are being filed, and those responsible will face consequences—legal, severe, and irreversible," he concluded.
