Madhya Pradesh Initiates ‘Saraswati Abhiyan’ to Reduce Girl Dropout Rates
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Bhopal, March 6 (NationPress) The Madhya Pradesh government's Women and Child Development Department announced the launch of the ‘Saraswati Abhiyan’ on Friday, a significant initiative under the Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao scheme aimed at reintegrating girls who have been deprived of education into the academic system.
This program seeks to assist girls who have left school for various social, familial, or economic reasons, encouraging them to return to education and become financially self-sufficient by accessing the scheme's benefits.
“As part of this campaign, girls will have the chance to take Class 8, 10, and 12 examinations through the State Open School system. They will receive essential study materials, guidance, contact classes, and mentoring support to help them complete their education and pursue further academic or job opportunities,” stated an official.
An official also mentioned that a state-level workshop is scheduled for March 10 in Bhopal, where Chief Minister Mohan Yadav will be present to discuss the department's work plan and innovations designed to assist school dropout girls.
The National Family Health Survey indicates a significant number of girls in Madhya Pradesh discontinue their education before completing Classes 8, 10, or 12. Once they drop out, many do not have opportunities to resume their studies, which leaves their education incomplete and limits their future prospects.
“To combat this challenge, the Saraswati Abhiyan will involve a survey aimed at identifying school dropout girls for enrollment in the State Open School,” the official added.
The state government anticipates that this initiative will significantly enhance female literacy, lower dropout rates, and empower women. It could also help in combating social issues such as child marriage.
“Through Saraswati Abhiyan, girls who have missed educational opportunities will gain a fresh chance not only to improve their own situations but also to contribute positively to their families and society,” the official concluded.
