Key Takeaways
Bhopal, April 10 (NationPress) - Madhya Pradesh's Food and Civil Supply Minister Govind Singh Rajput announced on Friday that the procurement of wheat at the Minimum Support Price (MSP) has seen remarkable enthusiasm from farmers.
The Minister revealed that over 22,521 metric tonnes of wheat were acquired from 5,220 farmers within just the first two days of the procurement initiative.
The procurement process commenced on April 9 in the divisions of Indore, Ujjain, Bhopal, and Narmadapuram, while other divisions are set to begin on April 15, which is anticipated to further boost the quantity of arrivals.
Minister Rajput noted that the response from the farming community has been overwhelmingly positive. He reported a record registration of 19.04 lakh farmers for wheat procurement this year, marking an increase of 3.6 lakh compared to the previous year.
"This demonstrates the trust farmers have in the government system. We are dedicated to ensuring a seamless procurement process and prompt payments at the Minimum Support Price," Rajput emphasized.
The state government has established 3,171 procurement centers throughout Madhya Pradesh to facilitate the process for farmers. A slot booking system has also been introduced to prevent overcrowding at the mandis.
“Currently, approximately 1.48 lakh farmers have reserved slots to sell over 6.74 lakh metric tonnes of wheat,” he added.
Farmers are receiving Rs 2,625 per quintal for wheat, which includes the Minimum Support Price of Rs 2,585 along with a state government bonus of Rs 40.
The Minister assured that adequate arrangements have been made for both storage and transportation. Sufficient gunny bags are available, and the wheat is being securely stored using jute and other standard packaging materials.
Rajput reiterated the government’s commitment to supporting farmers and ensuring the entire process is simple, transparent, and beneficial for them.
Last year, Madhya Pradesh achieved a procurement total of around 77 lakh metric tonnes of wheat. This year, the government has set an ambitious target of 78 lakh metric tonnes despite facing challenging conditions.
