Chennai, May 4 (NationPress) Authorities have ruled out any foul play in the recent vehicle accident involving the Madurai Adheenam near Ulundurpet, Tamil Nadu, and have issued a firm warning against the circulation of rumors on social media concerning the event.
As per Kallakurichi Police, the SUV transporting the Adheenam was heading to Chennai when it collided with another vehicle close to the Salem roundabout at Ulundurpet.
A police unit was promptly dispatched after the incident was reported. However, upon arrival, they found that both vehicles had already departed.
CCTV footage indicated that the SUV had utilized the service road in Ajees Nagar, Ulundurpet, instead of the flyover.
The collision transpired when the speeding SUV grazed against a car navigating a barricaded section.
Authorities confirmed that the accident occurred at approximately 9:45 a.m. on Friday, with both vehicles suffering only minor damage. An altercation reportedly ensued between the occupants of the two cars, yet they left without filing any complaints.
Following the incident, social media buzzed with allegations of an assassination attempt on the Adheenam's life.
The Adheenam himself suggested a conspiracy behind the accident, but initial police investigations uncovered no supporting evidence.
Officials stated that the accident was primarily due to the significant negligence of the driver of the Adheenam's vehicle.
As of now, no complaints have been filed by the Adheenam or his associates regarding the incident.
"Legal action will be strictly enforced against individuals disseminating false information and rumors about this accident," the police asserted in a statement.
Controversy erupted when the Tamil Nadu government prohibited the 'Pattina Pravesam' ritual at the Dharmapuram mutt a few years ago.
Later, Sri Harihara Sri Gnanasambanda Desika Swamigal, the head of the Madurai Adheenam, claimed he faced threats due to his vocal criticism of the DMK-led government.
The Adheenam accused the government of infringing upon Hindu temple rights, asserting that officials had seized temple lands and erected residences on temple property without compensation.
"I have been threatened for raising questions. They told me I cannot enter the town or perform my rituals to God," he stated.
The Adheenam also revealed plans to meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah to express his concerns regarding the threats to his life and to request protection.
