Prayagraj, Feb 14 (NationPress) In a remarkable milestone, 300 sanitation workers at the Maha Kumbh 2025 have etched their names in history by achieving a Guinness World Record for the inaugural coordinated river cleaning effort.

This extraordinary accomplishment occurred across various sectors of the Ganga during the Maha Kumbh festival.

As stated by the CEO of the Maha Kumbh Mela, Akanksha Rana, this marks the world's first Guinness record for a large-scale river cleaning initiative involving 300 workers.

She also indicated that additional records are anticipated as part of the ongoing cleanliness campaign, with a total of 15,000 sanitation workers expected to join the initiative in the upcoming days.

In a conversation with IANS, Akanksha Rana remarked, "Today signifies a historic first globally, where 300 sanitation workers united to clean the Ganga at various sites. This initiative intends to convey a strong message to the nation and the globe: Preserve our rivers and water bodies for everyone's safety.

"This is merely the beginning — further records will be established by the Mela Administration, including the cleaning of the Ganga by 15,000 workers, alongside simultaneous street sweeping activities at multiple locations."

Anand Kumar Singh, another key figure at the Maha Kumbh Mela, added, "This historic record was achieved today at Ram Ghat, where sanitation workers and volunteers collaborated to clean the river. With over 500 million visitors expected at the Mela, maintaining cleanliness is of utmost importance.

"We initiated a comprehensive cleanliness campaign, and our workers are diligently cleaning each ghat. Tomorrow, 15,000 workers will contribute to ensuring cleanliness throughout the entire event. My message is straightforward: Participate in cleanliness wherever you are and pass on the significance of this to future generations."

Manoj, one of the sanitation workers, expressed his pride, stating, "It feels incredible to be part of this historic event. We are diligently working to clean all three Sangam Ghats, and we aspire for this initiative to motivate everyone to maintain cleanliness in their surroundings. When Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited in 2019, a record was also set, creating a memorable experience. Today, the energy and enthusiasm are equally strong, and we are all driven to keep our environment clean."

Sonu Kumar, another sanitation worker, shared his experience, saying, "Being part of this effort was wonderful. Witnessing 300 individuals work in unison is truly inspiring. This reminds me of the 2019 event when sanitation workers were recognized in the presence of PM Modi. Today feels just as significant, and we all grasp the importance of keeping our ghats and rivers pristine. It was an incredible experience, and I’m still filled with joy."
