Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Mumbai, March 17 (NationPress) In response to the intensifying conflict between the US-Israel alliance and Iran, Maharashtra's Minister for Food and Civil Supplies, Chhagan Bhujbal, informed the state Assembly on Tuesday that the government is implementing various measures to guarantee a seamless supply of LPG. He also indicated that should the need arise, the government might consider distributing kerosene as an alternative fuel.
To maintain a steady supply of LPG, the state has directed all pertinent agencies to take immediate action, he stated.
Minister Bhujbal's remarks followed concerns raised by the Opposition regarding the LPG shortage, urging government intervention to alleviate consumer hardships in Maharashtra.
He elaborated on the government's proactive measures aimed at stabilizing the LPG supply.
“Despite the Central Government raising LPG cylinder prices by Rs 60, petrol and diesel prices remain unchanged. Special teams have been established to oversee LPG distribution, aiming to prevent hoarding and black marketing. Strict penalties will be enforced against violators,” he stated.
According to him, the Central Government has delegated authority to the Maharashtra Government to control the allocation of existing gas stocks. He assured the Assembly that decisive legal action will be undertaken against anyone disseminating false information on social media regarding the crisis. To alleviate the shortage, a revival of traditional fuels is under consideration.
“District Collectors are tasked with reporting logistics related to the transportation, storage, and distribution of kerosene, which is currently priced at Rs 61 per litre. Where feasible, coal and kerosene will be promoted as substitutes for LPG. Additionally, hospitals, crematoriums, old age homes, orphanages, and educational institutions will receive 100% LPG supply. Defence services, government offices, and the aviation sector will benefit from a 70% supply,” the minister noted.
Bhujbal also announced the establishment of a state-level Control Room, where complaints can be submitted via WhatsApp at 9769919221.
Regarding issues with perishable goods stranded due to container congestion, Minister Bhujbal stated that discussions with the Chief Minister are underway to consider waiving demurrage charges on these containers. The Central Government is also contemplating solutions for perishable items.
