Bengaluru, April 9 (NationPress) Karnataka's Minister for Food and Civil Supplies, K.H. Muniyappa, has taken decisive action regarding the current LPG shortage affecting the state. In light of the pressing situation, a meeting has been scheduled to address the issue and ensure gas supply to the impacted sectors.

While speaking to the media, Muniyappa announced that the high-level meeting will take place on Friday at 10:30 a.m.

"Officials will present comprehensive details, and I will assess the situation during this meeting. The livelihoods of auto drivers heavily rely on LPG, making it crucial to guarantee an uninterrupted supply for them. I have reached out to the Central government, requesting priority allocation of gas. Further actions will be determined based on their response," he stated.

Addressing concerns regarding black market sales of LPG at inflated prices, the Minister assured that stringent measures would be implemented.

He mentioned plans to discuss these issues with State Home Minister G. Parameshwara and instructed officials to enhance enforcement efforts.

"It is imperative to eradicate the black marketing of gas. Our department, in collaboration with the Legal Metrology wing, will conduct raids. Additionally, I have called for a meeting with officials from oil corporations to explore potential solutions," he elaborated.

Muniyappa emphasized that the LPG crisis has significantly impacted thousands of small businesses across the state.

He expressed concern that neighboring states are not experiencing a similar crisis, describing the situation as a “step-motherly attitude” from the Central government.

Muniyappa also highlighted earlier financial announcements made in Parliament, including funding for the Upper Bhadra project, lake desilting, and the Peripheral Ring Road, arguing that state allocations have yet to be delivered.

He pointed out that many individuals in urban areas rely on small eateries and hotels for their livelihoods and daily necessities.

"Failure to ensure gas supply jeopardizes their survival. This matter should have been prioritized," he asserted, adding that he has written to Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri and is awaiting a reply.

Regarding the removal of below poverty line (BPL) ration cards, Muniyappa clarified that no legitimate beneficiaries have been excluded.

He stated that individuals who believe they have been wrongly removed should approach the Tahsildar to have their BPL ration cards restored.

"We (the Congress government) are currently revising the list to eliminate ineligible beneficiaries. Several Above Poverty Line cardholders have been incorrectly included under BPL, and we are rectifying these discrepancies progressively," he added.

In response to allegations of irregularities in BPL cards, Minister Muniyappa confirmed that the state government is examining the data.

"There are indications that several lakh BPL cards may have been issued contrary to guidelines. We are systematically revising to ensure that only qualified beneficiaries receive BPL benefits," he concluded.

Point of View

Minister Muniyappa's proactive approach signals a crucial government response. The focus on ensuring gas supply not only for auto drivers but also for countless small businesses underscores the urgent need for effective measures to combat the crisis.
