Karnataka Cabinet Meeting to Tackle Gas and Fuel Supply Crisis
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Bengaluru, March 11 (NationPress) Karnataka's Deputy Chief Minister and State Congress President, D.K. Shivakumar, announced on Thursday that the state Cabinet will address the significant issue of gas and petroleum supply disruptions in a meeting scheduled for Thursday evening at the Vidhana Soudha.
While speaking to the media in Bengaluru, he stated, “The rise in cooking gas prices is one aspect. However, the availability of gas to the public is a more pressing concern. The Members of Parliament from Karnataka are not addressing this issue adequately. They either need to ensure gas availability or propose alternative solutions.”
“At the very least, they should guide our farmers to make alternative arrangements and allow the use of traditional firewood in rural homes. Previous announcements suggested kitchens should be free of firewood, but this regulation will need reconsideration,” he remarked.
Shivakumar also warned of potential gas shortages and possible increases in petrol and diesel prices. “People are already facing hardships, and the state government is limited in its capacity to mitigate this situation. During this crisis, the Central government is silent on India’s foreign policy,” he highlighted.
“The MPs are busy making statements on unrelated issues. They must bring this crisis to light in Parliament and advocate for the state. We express our disapproval of the Central government's response. It is crucial for citizens to live without such disruptions,” he emphasized.
“We are uncertain about what lies ahead. Already, gas-operated autos have ceased to function, making this a serious concern that will be thoroughly discussed in today’s Cabinet meeting,” Shivakumar added.
Addressing the LPG cylinder shortage stemming from the ongoing conflict involving Israel, the US, and Iran, BJP state President and MLA, B.Y. Vijayendra, stated on Wednesday that the Central government is actively working to ensure LPG cylinder supply, attributing the disruption to the sudden outbreak of war.
Speaking to reporters near the Vidhana Soudha, Vijayendra remarked: "The Central government, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is implementing necessary measures to secure the supply of cooking gas cylinders. The disruption is a result of unforeseen war conditions. Yet, Congress leaders continue to protest against the Central government despite being aware of the situation."
