Mumbai, July 15 (NationPress) Maharashtra's Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced on Tuesday the initiation of a robust initiative aimed at fostering the development of Gadchiroli district and enhancing the power distribution network through the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme and an external financial assistance program.
During the question hour in the state assembly, he stated that the rollout of these projects is being pursued with utmost urgency and reassured that funding would not pose a challenge. This response was directed towards member Raju Todsam.
The Chief Minister's declaration is significant, especially considering his previous comments on transforming Gadchiroli into a new steel hub, following substantial investments in mining and related sectors. Additionally, this announcement holds weight as the state anticipates that the Gadchiroli district will soon be liberated from Maoist activities.
He mentioned that electricity has been successfully provided to the Khandi-Nainwadi area of Bhamragad in Gadchiroli. Vital funds are being allocated for the advancement of infrastructure in tribal regions. "The process of granting individual electricity connections is currently in progress in primitive tribal areas like Katkari and Kolam, and connections have been supplied to those who applied," he stated.
Under the PM Janman scheme initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a total of 8,500 connections have been issued in Maharashtra, with an actual completion of 11,000 connections.
In Gadchiroli district, while 271 connections were initially anticipated, a total of 671 connections were provided, with an additional 65 connections in Bhamragadh. Electricity has even reached hamlets with as few as two or three residents, as highlighted by the Chief Minister.
According to him, the newly launched Dharti Abha scheme includes 17 initiatives specifically aimed at benefiting all tribal communities. This encompasses dedicated provisions for electricity, backed by a substantial fund of Rs 80,000 crore from the central government.
In the first phase of the Dharti Abha scheme, the target is to provide 6,961 connections statewide. To date, 4,687 connections have been established, with projects worth Rs 29 crore completed. Maharashtra is leading the nation in executing this scheme, with 144 connections implemented in Gadchiroli district and 28 in Bhamragadh. This initiative aims to extend electricity access to villages with a tribal population exceeding 60%, thus widening the scheme's reach.
