Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kolkata, April 15 (NationPress) On this Bengali New Year, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee called upon the citizens of election-bound Bengal to stand against what she termed as the Centre's overreach and to maintain the state's legacy of communal unity.
"I send my warmest wishes to everyone in the state on this special day of the Bengali New Year. May this new year bring joy and eliminate sorrow from your lives. May every heart be filled with purity in this call of the new," Banerjee expressed in a message shared on X.
She encouraged the populace to respond in a democratic manner to what she alleged were attempts by the Centre to suppress voting rights.
"Bengal is not only a hub of art and culture; it is also a sanctuary of harmony among various faiths. Yet, certain malevolent forces aim to tarnish this Bengal. The leaders in Delhi are stripping away the voting rights of the people. It's essential to remember that they must be confronted through democratic means," she stated.
Banerjee also urged the public to take an oath to combat divisive and autocratic tendencies.
"On this significant occasion, let us unite and commit ourselves to dismantling all forms of narrow-mindedness and progress together. Let no divisive or autocratic power disrupt our enduring peace, traditional harmony, and friendship," she added.
She concluded by urging voters to back Trinamool Congress candidates in the forthcoming Assembly elections in the state.
"Wishing everyone good health and prosperity. To safeguard your democratic rights in the upcoming Assembly elections, support the ‘double flower’ symbol and ensure a resounding victory for all Trinamool Congress candidates," she emphasized.
A fierce exchange of words has escalated between Mamata Banerjee and the Bharatiya Janata Party in the lead-up to the 2026 polls in West Bengal.
Banerjee has accused the BJP of undermining democratic processes, while the BJP has retaliated with claims of extensive infiltration and ineffective governance, transforming the campaign into a highly charged and polarized political battle.
