Kolkata, Dec 3 (NationPress) West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed her approval of the Calcutta High Court ruling that overturned a prior decision by a single-judge bench which had annulled the jobs of 32,000 primary teachers in the state. She stated that this ruling signifies that justice has been served for the teachers.
In her remarks regarding the ruling, CM Banerjee expressed her unwavering confidence in the legal system.
"Teachers have received justice. Their families can now feel secure. I am pleased with this outcome. We hold the judiciary in high regard and welcome this judgment. Our efforts have ensured the protection of our fellow citizens' jobs," the Chief Minister declared during a press briefing in Malda district.
She also criticized those who approach the courts to jeopardize teachers' positions.
"It is unacceptable to rush to the courts demanding job cancellations. Our focus should be on creating employment opportunities, not eliminating them," added Banerjee.
Various political leaders also expressed their approval of the Calcutta High Court's ruling.
State Education Minister Bratya Basu congratulated the primary educators following the court's decision.
"Congratulations to the Primary Education Board following the division bench's ruling in the Hon’ble High Court today. The previous single-bench verdict has been annulled, and the positions of 32,000 primary teachers are now fully secured. Wishing the best to all teachers. Truth has prevailed," he stated in a post on X.
BJP leader Shatorupa welcomed the ruling as well, but emphasized the need to identify trained teachers who may have obtained their jobs through improper means.
"We support the court's decision. We do not wish for any genuine teacher to lose their job, but those who are guilty must face consequences," said the BJP spokesperson.
Senior CPI-M leader Sujan Chakraborty shared his satisfaction regarding the court's ruling.
"The majority of the 32,000 teachers are qualified. They should not be denied their positions just because a few engaged in corrupt practices. We endorse the court's ruling. However, those who acquired jobs via corruption must be held accountable," Chakraborty remarked.
In agreement, Congress leader Soumya Aich Roy stated, "We have always advocated for job security. We oppose any actions that would lead to job losses. Thus, we support the court's decision, while also insisting that the guilty must be punished."
