Kolkata, April 7 (NationPress) BJP MP Jyotirmay Singh Mahato has formally urged Chief Justice of India (CJI) Sanjiv Khanna to acknowledge the alleged assaults on the judiciary by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee concerning the recent ruling by the apex court that annulled 25,753 school jobs in West Bengal.
In his correspondence, Mahato specifically drew attention to the remarks made by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and other speakers during a gathering at Netaji Indoor Stadium in central Kolkata.
“The situation escalated on April 7, when Mamata Banerjee, alongside Chief Secretary Manoj Pant and Education Minister Bratya Basu, led a government-sponsored event at Netaji Indoor Stadium, Kolkata. What was intended to be an expression of solidarity with the affected candidates transformed into a platform for openly criticizing the Supreme Court and personally targeting Your Lordship,” Mahato’s letter stated.
In his letter, Mahato particularly pointed out certain remarks made by noted writer Abul Bashar during the assembly, which he deemed “shocking and disrespectful” towards the judiciary and the Chief Justice of India.
“In public remarks and media discussions, Bashar acknowledged that he was invited by the state Education Minister Bratya Basu. The occurrence of such actions under the official endorsement of the state government, with the Chief Minister present, is a blatant attempt to undermine the dignity of the judiciary,” Mahato’s letter articulated.
The BJP Lok Sabha representative further asserted in the letter that whenever a court ruling has been unfavorable to the state government, leaders from the ruling party have resorted to unprecedented attacks against the judiciary.
Mahato implored the Chief Justice of India to take suo motu cognizance of “these recurrent assaults on the judiciary by constitutional authorities,” and to “ensure that those who have disrespected the court while shielded by political power face suitable repercussions under the law.”
