Manipur Chief Minister Issues Warning Against Rumor Spreaders Inciting Ethnic Tensions

Imphal, Jan 8 (NationPress) Manipur's Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Wednesday issued a firm warning regarding severe repercussions for anyone propagating rumours on social media with the intent of fostering communal discord in the state.
While distributing benefits to labour card holders, the Chief Minister emphasized during the event that it is increasingly concerning that certain individuals with selfish motives are spreading false information via social media to provoke tensions between communities within the state.
“It has come to my attention that some ill-intentioned individuals are circulating rumours on social media to create animosity between two communities. I have directed the relevant departments to locate the offenders and implement suitable measures,” Singh asserted, reaffirming his dedication to maintain peace and communal harmony in Manipur.
The state administration is entirely devoted to enacting strict measures against anyone found culpable of instigating turmoil through malicious rumours and misinformation, he stated.
The Chief Minister distributed benefits to labour card holders under a special initiative aimed at providing financial support for the education of children from labour card holders living in relief camps.
He mentioned that a total of Rs 2.89 crore was allocated to approximately 5,225 individuals through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) on Wednesday.
Under this initiative, Rs 5,000 has been allocated to each displaced family affected by violence, who hold a valid labour card and are residing in relief camps.
The Chief Minister urged that individuals should refrain from engaging in trivial politics and instead work collaboratively during this critical time in the state.
“One should enter politics to contribute positively to the betterment of the land and its people. A politician needs to possess the courage to stand firmly for the interests of the state and its inhabitants,” he added.
He mentioned that the BJP-led government has initiated numerous citizen-centric programs for the welfare of the populace.
He noted that the cashless medical treatment initiative “Chief Minister-gi Hakshelgi Tengbang (CMHT)” was launched in January 2018 after recognizing the challenges faced by the needy and poor regarding healthcare.
In a similar vein, the “Chief Minister Sotharabasin-gi Tengbang” was introduced for the welfare and development of differently-abled individuals in the state.
Under the “School Fagathansi mission”, children of labour card holders residing in relief camps are receiving complimentary education in government schools.
Singh mentioned that under the “Chief Minister gi Artistes singi Tengbang (CMAT)” scheme, a monthly pension is being provided to around 900 artistes. Thousands of families have benefited from the “One Family, One Livelihood Scheme”, he stated.
He further added that approximately 500 youths will receive skills training in Delhi for cabin crew placements, with funding for the training covered by the Ministry of Tourism, prioritizing displaced individuals.
He noted that around 17 startups have already employed approximately 432 displaced individuals.
The Chief Minister stated that the government has been providing all possible assistance in relocating individuals affected by the ethnic conflict to safer locations.
In the Phubala region, the government has constructed prefabricated houses, and individuals have been moved to these safer accommodations. Approximately 2,500 prefabricated houses have been occupied.
