Manipur: One Militant Neutralized, Six Arrested in Thoubal District

Imphal, Dec 14 (NationPress) An armed militant was neutralized and six others apprehended after a violent clash between Manipur Police Commandos and an armed faction in Thoubal District on Saturday, according to officials.

A substantial cache of arms and ammunition, along with various electronic devices, was also seized from the scene.

A senior police official in Imphal reported that armed militants ambushed the Manipur Police Commandos in Salungpham Thongkhong during a routine patrol.

The Commando unit retaliated against the attack, leading to the capture of six militants while another sustained injuries during the confrontation. The injured militant later succumbed to his injuries at a private medical facility.

Another police official disclosed that the armed group, traveling in two vehicles, was initially pursued by the police due to suspicions.

The armed individuals opened fire on the police commandos, which triggered the intense encounter, as explained by the official.

The body of the deceased militant, Laishram Prem alias Loktak Singh (18), was transported to the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Imphal for autopsy.

The captured militants have been identified as Thokchom Momocha alias Sunny (41), Sarangthem Anand Singh alias Malem (36), Ningthoujam Karna Singh alias Pishak (27), Ningthoujam Manoranjan Singh alias Khagemba (21), Thongam Phalguni alias Urikpa alias Khoithol (27), and Moirangthem Johnson alias Thouna (21).

A large quantity of arms and ammunition, along with several electronic devices, was also seized from the site.

The recovered arsenal includes two INSAS Rifles (5.56 mm), one Amogh Rifle (5.56 mm), one .303 Rifle, one SLR (7.62 mm), one INSAS Folding Rifle (5.56 mm), and a significant amount of assorted ammunition, as well as five mobile phones.

The Thoubal District Police are currently verifying whether the deceased and the arrested individuals are affiliated with any militant organization or are armed village volunteers.
