Imphal, March 10 (NationPress) The Governor of Manipur, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, emphasized the importance of safeguarding, promoting, and conducting comprehensive academic research on the state's vibrant cultural heritage during a ceremony on Tuesday. He noted the value of this heritage for both future generations and scholarly inquiry.
As Chancellor of the Manipur University of Culture, Bhalla chaired the inaugural Convocation Ceremony at the City Convention Centre in Imphal.
In his address, the Governor remarked that convocations are pivotal milestones in a university's journey, representing the end of years of hard work, dedication, and academic commitment by the students.
He pointed out that the first convocation of the Manipur University of Culture not only celebrates student achievements but also serves as a crucial step toward enhancing cultural education and research in the region.
Established under the Manipur University of Culture Act, 2015, the University was designed as a pioneering institution aimed at preserving, promoting, and academically exploring the state's rich and diverse cultural heritage.
Over time, the University has transformed into a significant center where tradition and academic scholarship intersect.
In congratulating the graduating class, Bhalla noted that they bear the dual responsibility of honoring and safeguarding Manipuri cultural traditions. He affirmed that institutions like the Manipur University of Culture are vital for maintaining the state's artistic heritage, which includes dance, music, theatre, rituals, martial arts, and oral literature, while also shaping future generations of cultural artists, scholars, and researchers.
The Governor commended the progress achieved by the University since its inception and lauded the efforts of Vice-Chancellor Paonam Gunindro Singh, faculty, and staff for establishing the institution as a notable hub of cultural learning in the area.
During the ceremony, Bhalla presented degrees and gold medals to the graduates, with over 400 students earning their degrees at this historic first convocation since the University's founding in 2015.
The event was attended by notable figures including Prasan Kumar Swain, Vice-Chancellor of Utkal University of Culture; H. Gyan Prakash, Commissioner for Art and Culture; and Laishram Radhakanta, the University's Registrar, among other dignitaries.
