Jaipur, March 26 (NationPress) Rajasthan Governor Haribhau Bagde stated on Wednesday that education serves as the fundamental key to development.
He made this assertion during his address at the ninth convocation ceremony of Maharaja Ganga Singh University located in Bikaner district.
In his speech, Governor Bagde highlighted India's esteemed knowledge tradition and urged students to blend ancient wisdom with contemporary advancements, contributing to the nation's evolution.
He called for unified efforts towards building a developed India.
Referring to Bikaner as the 'Tapobhoomi' (a site of spiritual practice) of Maharishi Kapil, the founder of Sankhya philosophy, he emphasized the necessity for introspection regarding how the youth can connect with India's rich heritage under the New Education Policy.
Governor Bagde encouraged graduates to leverage their education for the nation's reconstruction and development.
He remarked that a convocation signifies not the conclusion of education, but rather a new beginning.
Students should utilize their knowledge for personal growth, societal advancement, and national progress, the Governor noted.
The Governor underscored that education fosters wisdom and knowledge, describing books as the bedrock of education and culture.
He stated that books cultivate individuals to be knowledgeable, imaginative, thoughtful, and empathetic.
Learning, according to the Governor, knows no age limits; books remain the supreme source of knowledge.
In discussing the New Education Policy, he pointed out that skill development is of paramount importance.
This policy, he explained, is not merely focused on job placement but also on creating employment opportunities.
He urged students to acquire skills that would foster self-reliance in the future.
The Governor celebrated Bikaner's cultural heritage, referring to it as 'Choti Kashi', a realm of deep-rooted traditions and unity.
He acknowledged Maharaja Ganga Singh as a forward-thinking ruler who established the Chief Court in Bikaner, marking it as the first state in Rajasthan to take such a progressive initiative.
Governor Bagde praised Maharaja Ganga Singh University for its adaptability to the ever-changing landscape of information technology.
He urged teachers to stay informed about the latest knowledge and play a role in shaping India's future.
He also commended the university's implementation of the 'Choice Based Credit System' and the establishment of laboratories in affiliated colleges, emphasizing that a university's identity is shaped by the quality of education and its tradition of knowledge sharing, rather than merely its infrastructure.
Special guest and editor of The Organiser, Prafulla Ketkar, stressed that universities should not only focus on imparting education or granting degrees but also inspire students to cultivate values such as humanity, tolerance, acceptance, logic, critical thinking, and the pursuit of truth.
The Vice-Chancellor of Maharaja Ganga Singh University, Acharya Manoj Dixit, expressed gratitude to all attendees at the convocation ceremony.
During the event, the Governor congratulated female students for their academic achievements.
Of the 63 gold medals awarded for the 2022 examination, 50 were earned by female students, while in 2023, they secured 47 out of 62 gold medals, according to Governor Bagde.
He highlighted this success as a testament to women's empowerment.
Additionally, the Chancellor Medal and the Vice-Chancellor Medal were awarded to female scholars.
Out of 84 Vidya Vachaspati (Ph.D) degrees awarded in 2022, 33 were given to female scholars, while in 2023, 26 out of 50 recipients were women.
The Governor awarded degrees to a total of 1,26,949 students for 2022 and 1,21,020 students for 2023, along with gold medals to 125 students.
A total of 134 candidates received Ph.D degrees.
On this occasion, Governor Bagde also inaugurated the university's Art Gallery, marking another milestone in the institution's academic and cultural journey.
