Raipur, Sep 18 (NationPress) In a significant operation, security forces eliminated a prominent Maoist commander, Booski Nuppo, during a fierce confrontation in the dense forests between Gufdi and Permapara within the jurisdiction of Gadiras police station in Chhattisgarh's Sukma district on Thursday.

Nuppo, 35, hailing from Rewali village in Dantewada district, was a key member of the Malangir Area Committee and had a bounty of Rs 5 lakh placed on her head.

She was implicated in nine serious offenses across Sukma and Dantewada, with seven cases in Aranpur, one in Kuankonda, and one in Gadiras.

The operation commenced early in the morning based on intelligence reports indicating Maoist activity in the area.

The District Reserve Guard (DRG) team engaged in a shootout with the insurgents, leading to Nuppo's demise.

Authorities recovered her body along with a stockpile of weapons and explosives. Items retrieved from the scene included: one 315 bore rifle with five cartridges, one wireless set, eight detonators, about 10 meters of cordex wire, four gelatin rods, explosives, a radio, a backpack, and Maoist literature along with other everyday items.

Kiran Chavan, Superintendent of Police in Sukma, confirmed the successful operation and highlighted the importance of neutralizing such a high-ranking Maoist figure.

Sundarraj P, Inspector General of Police for Bastar Range, urged remaining Maoist members to understand the decline of their movement and consider surrendering.

He encouraged them to adopt the government's rehabilitation policy and reintegrate into society. This encounter represents a vital advancement in ongoing efforts to dismantle Maoist strongholds in Chhattisgarh.

The joint team launched a search mission early Wednesday morning into the thick forests of Southwestern Bijapur, and during the confrontation, two Maoists were neutralized.

Point of View

I recognize the importance of this operation in the broader context of combating insurgency in India. The successful neutralization of Booski Nuppo demonstrates the commitment of security forces to restore peace in Chhattisgarh. However, it also highlights the need for continued efforts in addressing the underlying issues that fuel such movements.
