Ahmedabad, Jan 18 (NationPress) – Md Nawab from Patna achieved an impressive even-par 72 in the second round, accumulating a total score of one-under 143 to clinch victory in Pre-Qualifying I of the PGTI Qualifying School 2026, hosted at the Kensville Golf & Country Club in Ahmedabad. Out of a competitive field of 141 players, the top 27 successfully advanced to the Final Qualifying Stage, with the cut set at six-over 150.

The 45-year-old veteran, Md Nawab (71-72), who was tied for second place overnight, showcased a blend of three birdies and three bogeys in the second round. Despite two late bogeys, he concluded the round on a high note with a spectacular chip-in birdie on the 18th hole.

“My chipping and putting were exceptional over the last two days. I also displayed considerable accuracy with my iron shots. The chip-in from the bunker for a birdie on the 18th sums up my week,” Nawab commented. “I owe a lot to my elder brother and mentor, Md Islam, for his support in improving my game. I'm also grateful to my close friend and fellow professional, Om Prakash Chouhan, for his valuable insights that aided my performance in Ahmedabad,” he added.

Amateur golfer Aryav Shah (71-73) and Uganda’s Marvin Kibirige (71-73) shared second place at even-par 144.

On the opening day, Rajesh Kumar from Panchkula excelled with six birdies, a bogey, and a double-bogey, taking the lead.

Five players were tied for second place at one-under 71, including Md Nawab, Rishi Raj Singh Rathore, amateurs Aryav Shah and Shubham Kumar, along with Uganda’s Marvin Kibirige.

The Qualifying School, which signals the commencement of each PGTI season, stands as one of the most significant events in the PGTI calendar, serving as the sole pathway for players to qualify for participation in the PGTI throughout the season. This tournament sets the criteria for players for the entire season.

This year's Qualifying School event commenced with over 450 golfers, featuring 39 international participants alongside Indian players.
