Jamshedpur, Jan 22 (NationPress) The 19-year-old amateur Aditya Garg from Pune shot an impressive six-under 65 to seize the lead during Round One of Pre-Qualifying I at the PGTI Qualifying School 2025, held at the Golmuri Golf Course on Wednesday.
Aditya Garg recorded seven birdies against a single bogey to secure the top position after the first round. This being his inaugural attempt at the PGTI Q School, Garg demonstrated exceptional skill by landing his shots close to the flag throughout the day, contributing to his remarkable birdies.
Aditya, who has previously finished as a runner-up in the amateur circuit, expressed, “My tee shots and approach shots were notably precise today, enabling me to achieve a strong score. I aim to replicate this performance in round two. As this is my first experience at the Q School, a solid score in the opening round boosts my confidence for what lies ahead.”
Chandigarh’s Vishav Pratap Singh Gill held the second position with a score of five-under 66.
Out of a competitive field of 105, the top 20 players (+ ties) will qualify for the Final Qualifying Stage from Pre-Qualifying I, which is a 36-hole event. There will be three of these Pre-Qualifying events in total.
The First Stage, comprising three Pre-Qualifying events of 36 holes each, is scheduled from January 22 to February 1, while the Final Stage, a 72-hole event, will take place from February 4 to 7.
The Qualifying School, which signifies the commencement of each PGTI season, is one of the most crucial events on the PGTI calendar, serving as the exclusive pathway for players to qualify for participation in the PGTI for the season. The tournament outlines criteria for players throughout the entire season.
This year’s Qualifying School will feature participation from a total of 408 golfers.
Additionally, the event will include 32 international golfers representing 15 foreign nations. This list comprises 10 players from Bangladesh, eight from the USA, two from Indonesia, and one each from South Korea, Australia, Uganda, New Zealand, Italy, South Africa, United Kingdom, Japan, Austria, Canada, Germany, and Nepal. Notably, Indonesia is participating in the PGTI Q School for the first time.
